Front Royal Virginia is in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. About one hour west of Washington DC. via I-66. This area is a Meca for people looking for country living at its finest and want to escape the city life. It's where the Blue Ridge Mountains meet the Shenandoah River! The area that became Front Royal was settled as early 1738. In those days, the community was called LeHewtown, a place where river travelers and wild mountaineers gathered to party. It was incorporated as "Front Royal" in 1788, but the origin of that name remains unclear.

With 8 public schools and 2 private schools, there is no shortage of educational options in Front Royal. Education Christendom College offers higher education to local students. Those seeking alternative institutions of higher education can find 5 other options within 50 miles of town. These include Shenandoah University, Lord Fairfax Community College, Shepherd College, George Mason University and James Madison University. Warren Memorial Hospital serves local health care needs. The Front Royal - Warren County Airport provides regional transportation. Front Royal and Warren County is the gateway to many wonderful attractions: surrounded by the Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive, George Washington National Forrest, the Raymond R. “Andy” Guest/Shenandoah River State Park, as well as the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains. It also has a large number of American Civil War attractions, both in the town and the surrounding Shenandoah Valley. Shenandoah National Park showcases the beauty, heritage and outdoor recreational potential of our scenic area. Park facilities include lodges, cabins, campgrounds, gift shops, dining, camp stores & other visitor services. Numerous hiking trails & horseback riding are also available. On the Shenandoah River, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, climbing, wild flowering, camping, golfing, mountain biking, bird watching, caving, hang gliding or just take in all the natural beauty. The river also provides opportunities to float, tube & kayak through class I, II or III rapids. Skyline Caverns is only a mile away from town. These caverns are one of the only places on Earth where you can see Anthodites, the rock formations known as "orchids of the mineral kingdom." The caverns are also host to Rainbow Falls, which plunge more than 37 feet from one of three streams flowing through the caves.
